Your First Visit Starts With a Conversation

If you like knowing what to expect before an appointment, we've put together a quick guide to your first visit.

We'll start by learning a little about you, your dental history, and what brings you to our office. Whether you're here for a routine checkup, have a specific concern, or want to make a change to your smile, we want to understand what you need.

Have questions? Feel free to ask. If you've had an uncomfortable dental experience in the past or feel nervous about treatment, let us know. We're happy to talk through your concerns.

What to Bring to Your First Appointment

A little preparation can help your first visit go more smoothly. Here’s what to have ready.

Completed New Patient FormsComplete the new patient forms before your visit, or arrive a little early to fill them out at our office.
Insurance Card and IDBring your current dental insurance card and a photo ID. Our team can help you review your benefits and answer questions about your coverage.
List of MedicationsBring a list of your current medications, including vitamins and supplements. It's important for your dentist to know about medications and health conditions when evaluating your dental needs and planning treatment.
Previous Dental Records or X-RaysIf you've recently had dental X-rays taken at another office, ask whether those images can be sent to us before your appointment.

What Happens During Your First Visit?

Your appointment will depend on your dental needs and the reason for your visit, but here's what you can generally expect.

Step 1

We'll Talk About Your Dental Health

We'll discuss your dental history, any concerns you have, and what you'd like to address. This is a good time to mention tooth pain, sensitivity, or anything else you've noticed.

Step 2

We'll Review Your Medical History

Your medical conditions and medications can affect your dental care, so we'll review your health information before making treatment recommendations.

Step 3

You'll Receive a Dental Exam

Your dentist will examine your teeth, gums, and other areas of your mouth. X-rays may be taken when needed to evaluate areas that aren't visible during the exam. An oral cancer screening may also be included as part of your evaluation.

Step 4

We'll Explain Our Findings

If we identify any concerns, we'll explain what we found and answer your questions. We can also review your X-rays with you when appropriate, so you have a better understanding of your dental health.

Step 5

We'll Discuss Your Treatment Options

If treatment is recommended, we'll explain your options and the anticipated costs before moving forward. If you need more than one procedure, we'll help you understand which treatments should be prioritized and discuss scheduling options. Our goal is to help you make informed decisions about your dental care.
